BTRC issues NIX licenses for the first time

The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has awarded National Internet Exchange (NIX) licenses for the first time to route domestic internet traffic.
BTRC chairman Sunil Kanti Bose handed over the licenses to Bangladesh Internet Exchange Trust (BDIX) in a simple ceremony at BTRC. Dr M Asaduzzaman General, secretary of BDIX, received the licenses on behalf of BDIX. The NIX will facilitate local content development, encourage local web hosting and reduce latency in domestic traffic and thereby saving international bandwidth and foreign currency.
